Oranges and Peaches: the South American edition
Naranjas y Duraznos is the Spanish translation of the title of the blog I maintained in 2007-2009.
As a library school student and as a public librarian, I kept encountering the perception or the assumption that librarians know all the things, that we kill at Trivial Pursuit, and that our knowledge knows no bounds. (I never even come close to fitting that stereotype). Oranges and Peaches was part learning about those things I thought I should have known, part coming to terms with not knowing things that a lot of other people know, and part exploring the assumptions about what constitutes common knowledge anyway.
The editorial focus of Naranjas y Duraznos will develop over time, but its name reminds me that I will be learning as I go about doing a thing for the first time.
Of course, it's not entirely new.
Not new: travel
Not new: travel with someone other than my husband (well, for a grand total of 5 days)
Not new: seeking employment and housing
Not new: setting goals and taking risks
Not new: moving to a different city
New: doing the above in Spanish, and in another part of the world.
